ABOUT ME

I’ve been working across beauty, fashion, health, and lifestyle editorial since 2011. Most recently, I was the content director for Allure where I lead content strategy across the website, collaborating with the social, video, and branded teams to produce engaging, multi-platform features. Before Allure, I spent nearly six years building the fashion & beauty verticals at Bustle essentially from scratch. In addition to Allure and Bustle, my byline has appeared on Refinery29, Seventeen, and The Knot, as well as several local news and lifestyle outlets in New Hampshire.

I’ll be moving fully into freelance life in November 2025, when I’ll be able to offer a wide range of copywriting, editing, and content strategy services, including editorial reporting, copywriting, newsletters/Substack strategy, sponsored and branded content, trend and industry reports, and consumer-facing or in-house promotion materials

In terms of editorial, my favorite type of writing lets me nerd out with scientists, doctors, or policy experts in the initial reporting, then speak to everyday people whose lives are actually being affected by what’s happening in the news. On the commercial side, I’m most interested in helping mission-focused brands and organizations tell their stories authentically.

Pre-editor life, I studied print (?!) journalism, Spanish, and musical theater at Hofstra University on Long Island. Before that, I went to cosmetology school for a little formal beauty training. I’m a tattoo and piercing collector, avid reader of literary fiction and sci fi, and lover of all fiber arts.

After 12 years in New York, I’m back in NH with my partner, four perfect cats, a delightful dog, and a rotating cast of foster animals. Want to work together? Send me an email at kara@karamcgrath.com.
